The Economies of Elegance paper discusses how the authors and Architectural designers Ali Rahim and Hina Jamelle, from Contemporary Architecture Practise designed the Migrating Coastlines: Residential Tower project in Dubai.
Digital algorithm technology helped create this elegant and functional form which integrates all of the mechanical and electrical systems. Structurally the model is twisted to increase its load bearing capacities and high-tech heat sensitive glass is a key feature of the materials. The low iron glass exhibits different qualities depending on location of sun and amount of heat on its surface and also generates optical illusions externally due to the curvature of the glass.
This building has special features at its base to make it also commercially viable for its desert location. Amenities include ponds that create a cool environment and power outlets that could easily facilitate the gathering of markets which would have no chance of surviving outside.
